Left Front Sensor Signal Failure

  1. Using scan tool, read system trouble codes. If scan tool displays Left Front Sensor Circuit Failure, go to LEFT FRONT SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE . If scan tool does not display Left Front Sensor Circuit Failure, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. While monitoring LF WSS, have an assistant drive vehicle while slowly accelerating straight ahead from a stop to 15 MPH. If LF WSS shows zero MPH, go to next step. If LF WSS does not show zero MPH, go to step  10.
  3. Turn ignition off. Inspect LF tone wheel for damaged or missing teeth. Ensure teeth are square and are not bent or nicked. If tone wheel is okay, go to next step. If tone wheel is damaged, replace tone wheel. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  4. Turn ignition off. Inspect LF WSS and connector for looseness or damage. Repair LF WSS as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES. If LF WSS is okay, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Inspect LF wheel bearings for excessive runout or clearance. If no excessive LF wheel bearing runout or clearance exists, go to next step. If excessive LF wheel bearing runout or clearance exists, repair as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  6. Using feeler gauge, measure air gap between end of LF WSS and teeth on tone wheel at 4 different places. Air gap should be .012-.059" (.30-1.50 mm). If air gap is within specification, go to next step. If air gap is not within specification, repair components as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect LF WSS connector. Connect single jumper wire from harness side of LF WSS connector Red wire and LF WSS connector mating terminal. Using voltmeter in DC mode, backprobe Red/Dark Blue wire at sensor connector. Slowly rotate wheel while observing voltmeter reading. If voltage toggles from 1.6 volts to .8 volt as wheel rotates, go to next step. If voltage does not change, replace sensor. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Using voltmeter in DC mode, backprobe between ground and Red/Dark Blue wire at CAB connector. Reconnect CAB connector.
  9. If there are no potential causes remaining, replace sensor. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  10. Turn ignition off. Check wheel speed sensor, tone wheel, wiring harness and brakes. Check all components for defects, which may cause DTC to set. If any component is damaged, repair as necessary. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES. If components are not damaged, test is complete.
