Test 8B: Shorted Blower Motor Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Dodge Intrepid and 1999 Chrysler Concorde. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before proceeding with this test, perform TEST 8A: INOPERATIVE BLOWER MOTOR  .
  1. Turn ignition off. Turn blower motor selector to OFF position. Ensure blower motor resistor and blower motor are still connected. Using a DVOM, backprobe and measure resistance between ground and blower motor 2-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is 5.0 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, go to step 3 .
  2. Replace fuse No. 23 (30-amp), located in junction block. Turn blower motor selector to high speed. Turn ignition on. If blower motor operates, fuse No. 23 was defective. Repair is complete. If blower motor does not operate, replace blower motor and fuse No. 23. Perform VERIFICATION TEST  .
  3. Disconnect blower motor resistor 6-pin connector. Ensure connector terminals are clean, tight and not damaged. Repair as necessary. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and blower motor resistor 6-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire. If resistance is 5.0 ohms or more, replace blower motor and fuse No. 23 (30-amp). Perform VERIFICATION TEST  .
