Instrument Cluster Test 1A - Identifying Instrument Cluster Problems
NOTE:
Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
and WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool displays any other message, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS .
- If scan tool displays, NO RESPONSE or Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display is blank or displays NO BUS, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER and then select READ DTCs. If scan tool displays RAM FAULT, replace Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER and read cluster type. If cluster type matches vehicle equipment (US or Metric), go to next step. If cluster type does not match vehicle, replace MIC.
- Using scan tool, select BODY COMPUTER systems test. If PCM status is INACTIVE ON THE BUS, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
- Identify problems(s) listed in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table and perform indicated test(s).
