Steering Column: Lowering

  1. Before proceeding, read air bag service precautions section. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  .
  2. Remove air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULE  . Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .
  3. Remove left side instrument panel insulator and trim panel below steering column. Push top of intermediate shaft seal down for access to upper intermediate shaft coupling and upper intermediate steering shaft bolt.
  4. Remove intermediate steering shaft bolt. See Figure . Remove transaxle shift cable from ball stud on steering column and transaxle shift cable casing from steering column bracket by depressing 2 tabs. If equipped with floor shift, remove park lock cable. Remove lower steering column bolts. Remove upper steering column bolts. Lower column to seat.
