Test A: Power Door Locks Inoperative: Notes

  1. If door systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Verify if complaint exists for power door locks. If power door locks do not operate correctly, go to next step. If power door locks operate correctly, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function. Close all doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using driver's door lock switch, operate front door locks to lock and unlock, and rear door to lock. If DTCs U1162 and U1163 do not simultaneously store as current when door lock switches are operated, go to next step. If DTCs U1162 and U1163 simultaneously store as current when door lock switches are operated, go to step  14 .
  4. Turn headlight switch to ON position. Operate suspect door lock switch to front door lock and unlock and rear door to lock. Using scan tool, observe suspect door lock switch parameter in Driver's Door Module (DDM) inputs data list. If parameter does not change to lock and unlock for front door and lock for rear door, go to next step. If parameter changes to lock and unlock for front door and lock for rear door, go to step  7 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect suspect door lock switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between ground and suspect door lock switch harness connector lock or unlock signal circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light does not illuminate at any circuit, go to next step. If test light illuminates at any circuit, go to step  19 .
  6. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between suspect door lock switch harness connector signal and ground circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Using scan tool, observe suspect door lock switch parameter. If scan tool does not display INOPERATIVE state, go to step  10 . If scan tool displays INOPERATIVE state, go to step  15 .
  7. Disconnect suspect door lock actuator harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and suspect door lock actuator harness connector unlock control circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Operate either front door lock switch to unlock. If test light flashes with switch operated to unlock, go to next step. If test light does not flash with switch operated to unlock, go to step  11 .
  8. Connect a test light between ground and suspect door lock actuator harness connector lock control circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Operate either front door lock switch to lock. If test light flashes with switch operated to lock, go to next step. If test light does not flash with switch operated to lock, go to step  11 .
  9. Connect a test light between suspect door lock actuator harness connector terminals lock and unlock control circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Operate either front door lock switch to lock and unlock. If test light does not flash with switch operated to lock and unlock, go to step  13 . If test light flashes with switch operated to lock and unlock, go to step  18 .
  10. Inspect signal and ground circuits for an open or high resistance between suspect door lock actuator and suspect door module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem does not exist, go to step  16 . If problem exists, repair signal and/or ground circuits as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  11. Inspect lock and unlock control circuits for an open or short to ground between ground and suspect door lock actuator harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair lock and/or unlock control circuits as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  12. Inspect lock and unlock control circuits for a short to voltage between suspect door lock actuator harness connector and suspect door module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem does not exist, go to step  17 . If problem exists, repair lock and/or unlock control circuits as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  13. Inspect Black/White wire for an open or high resistance between ground and suspect door module harness connector C1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem does not exist, go to step  17 . If problem exists, repair Black/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  14. Inspect Light Blue wire and Black/White wire for a short to ground between both rear door lock actuator harness connector terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem does not exist, go to step  18 . If problem exists, repair Light Blue wire and/or Black/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  15. Inspect suspect door lock switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  20 . If problem exists, repair suspect door lock switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  16. Inspect suspect door module harness connector or Driver's Door Switch Assembly (DDSA) harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  21 . If problem exists, repair suspect door module or DDSA harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  17. Inspect suspect door module harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  22 . If problem exists, repair suspect door module harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  18. Inspect suspect door lock actuator harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  23 . If problem exists, repair suspect door lock actuator harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  24 .
  19. NOTE: If door lock switch signal circuit is found to be shorted to voltage, lock switch needs to be replaced, along with circuit repair.
  20. Repair short to voltage is suspect door lock switch signal circuit. After repair, go to step  24 .
  21. Replace suspect door lock switch. After repair, go to step  24 .
  22. Replace suspect passenger door module or DDSA. After repair, go to step  24 .
  23. Replace suspect door module. After repair, go to step  24 .
  24. Replace suspect door lock actuator. After repair, go to next step.
  25. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
