Cruise Control Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure battery condition, cold cranking amperage and reserve capacity meet specifications. Replace as necessary. Install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Engine Control Module (ECM). If communication with ECM is established, go to next step. If communication with ECM is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH KEYWORD DATA LINE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Using scan tool, select ECM DTCs function. If scan tool displays DTC P0571 or P1662, repair cruise control malfunction as necessary. If scan tool does not display DTCs P0571 or P1662, go to next step.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs with a "U", repair data link communications malfunction. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If scan tool does not display any DTCs with a "U", repair cruise control system by symptom. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS - CATERA article.
