Test B: Scan Tool Does Not Power Up
NOTE:
Data Link Connector (DLC) provides scan tool operating power at terminal No. 16 and ground at terminal No. 4. DLC provides Class 2 serial data signal at terminal No. 2 and signal ground at terminal No. 5. Scan tool will power up with ignition off.
- Check battery feed circuit at DLC terminal No. 16 (Red wire) for an open or short to ground. See Figure . If malfunction is located and repaired, perform diagnostic system check for system affected. If malfunction is not located and repaired, go to next step.
- Check ground circuit at DLC terminal No. 4 (Black wire) for an open. If malfunction was located and repaired, perform diagnostic system check for system affected. If malfunction was not located and repaired, go to next step.
- Inspect for poor connections at terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 16 (Red wire) of DLC. If malfunction was located and repaired, perform diagnostic system check for system affected. If malfunction was not located and repaired, go to next step.
- Scan tool and/or connecting harness may be defective. See scan tool operator's manual. Replace scan tool and/or connecting harness and perform diagnostic system check for system affected.
