Cellular Communication Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure battery condition, cold cranking amperage and reserve capacity meet specifications. Replace as necessary. Install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Vehicle Integration Unit (VIU). If communication with VIU is established, go to next step. If communication with VIU is not established, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select VIU DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair cellular phone as necessary.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs with a "U", go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs with a "U", go to step  6 .
  5. If scan tool displays DTC U1500, repair cellular phone as necessary. If scan tool does not display DTC U1500, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  6. If scan tool displays DTCs B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If scan tool does not display DTCs B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, go to next step.
  7. If scan tool displays DTCs B1327 or B1328, repair charging system as necessary. See GENERATORS & REGULATORS - CATERA article in STARTING & CHARGING. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1327 or B1328, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
