Road Sensing Suspension Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. See Figure . If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform, TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension (CVRSS) module, Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with CVRSS module, EBCM and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with CVRSS module, EBCM and PCM, perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs for CVRSS module, EBCM and PCM. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair road sensing suspension by symptom. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - CV ROAD SENSING article in SUSPENSION.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with "U", perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool does not display any PCM DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any PCM DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  6. If scan tool does not display any EBCM DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any EBCM DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  7. If scan tool does not display DTC C0550, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC C0550, repair electronic suspension. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - CV ROAD SENSING article in SUSPENSION.
  8. If scan tool does not display DTC C0563, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC C0563, repair electronic suspension. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - CV ROAD SENSING article in SUSPENSION.
  9. If scan tool does not display DTC C0696, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC C0696, repair electronic suspension. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - CV ROAD SENSING article in SUSPENSION.
  10. If scan tool does not display DTC C0896, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If scan tool displays DTC C0896, repair electronic suspension. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - CV ROAD SENSING article in SUSPENSION.
