DTC B1805: Ignition Switch Circuit Malfunction: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Cadillac Seville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If diagnostic system check for system exhibiting symptom has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check for system exhibiting symptom has not been performed, perform appropriate diagnostic system check for suspect system. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters in Dash Integration Module (DIM) data list. If all ignition switch parameters display as inactive, go to next step. If all ignition switch parameters do not display as inactive, go to step  7 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters. If all ignition switch parameters display as active, go to next step. If all ignition switch parameters do not display as active, go to step  9 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to START position. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters. If only run/crank and ignition unlock parameters display as active, go to next step. If only run/crank and ignition unlock parameters do not display as active, go to step  7 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure ignition key is still in ignition switch. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters. If only ignition unlock parameter displays as active, go to next step. If only ignition unlock parameter does not display as active, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to ACCY position. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters. If only ignition accessory parameter does not display as active, go to next step. If only ignition accessory parameter displays as ACTIVE, go to step  11 .
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters. If previously active state does not change to inactive, go to next step. If previously active state changes to inactive, go to step  10 .
  8. Inspect active power mode signal circuits for short to voltage between ignition switch harness connectors and DIM harness connector C1. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If problem does not exist, go to step  11 . If problem exists, repair active power mode signal circuits as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  9. Inspect inactive power mode signal circuits for an open or high resistance between ignition switch harness connectors and DIM harness connector C1. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If problem does not exist, go to step  11 . If problem exists, repair inactive power mode signal circuits as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  10. Inspect ignition switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  12 . If problem exists, repair ignition switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  11. Inspect DIM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  13 . If problem exists, repair DIM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step  14 .
  13. Replace DIM. Program DIM. See DASH INTEGRATION MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  14. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
