DTC B1657: EEPROM Option Bit/CONFIG Error: Testing

  1. If instrument cluster system diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Retrieve DTCs. If DTC is current, go to next step. If DTC is history, recheck system.
  3. Perform the setup procedure for the module if required. See PROGRAMMING  . Replace the IPC. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Go to next step.
  4. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Operate the vehicle. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
