Instrument Cluster System Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM), Driver Door Module (DDM), HVAC module, Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication with all modules is established, go to next step. If communication with all modules is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select CLASS 2 POWER MODE in DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If ignition switch parameter reading matches actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter reading does not match actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, repair voltage input to body control module as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM, DDM, HVAC module, IPC and PCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair instrument panel cluster by symptom. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PARK AVENUE article.
- If scan tool does not display DTC U1161, U1162, or U1170, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC U1161, U1162, or U1170, perform appropriate test. See DTC U1161: LOSS OF PASSENGER DOOR MODULE SERIAL DATA, DTC U1162: LOSS OF REAR DOOR MODULE SERIAL DATA & DTC U1170: LOSS OF DRIVER DOOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY SERIAL DATA in DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display DTCs B1652, B1656, B1657, or B1658, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1652, B1656, B1657, or B1658, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If scan tool displays DTCs B1982, B1983, B2348, P0560, or P0620, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display DTCs B1982, B1983, B2348, P0560, or P0620, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
NOTE:
Engine may start during this step. Turn engine off as soon crank power mode is observed.
