Standard Body Module (SBM) Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool works, go to next step. If scan tool does not work, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP .
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communications with Standard Body Module (SBM). If scan tool communicates with SBM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SBM, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 SERIAL DATA LINE .
  3. Check for DTCs. If no "U" prefix DTCs exist, go to next step. If any "U" prefix DTCs exist, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 SERIAL DATA LINE .
  4. If DTC B1982 or B1983 exists, go to DTC B1982: BATTERY POWER VOLTAGE TOO HIGH DTC B1983: BATTERY POWER VOLTAGE TOO LOW . If DTC B1982 and B1983 do not exist, go to appropriate DTC test. See DTC IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
