Overview - Selector Lever Cable

  1. Selector Lever Cable
    • Do not bend.
    • Removing and installing. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • The selector lever cable must be replaced if the rubber grommet is damaged.
    • Ball socket and ball head must be free of oil and grease.
    • Make sure the rubber grommet for the selector lever cable is installed correctly inside the selector mechanism function unit lower section and seals correctly.
    • Adjusting. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .
  2. Clip
    • Replace
    • For the selector lever cable on the selector mechanism function unit.
  3. Bolt
    • 13 Nm
    • For adjusting the selector lever cable.
  4. Selector Lever Cable Bolts
    • The plastic retaining spring on adjustment slide must lock the pins so that they cannot fall out.
  5. Adjustment Slide
  6. Selector Lever
  7. Cable Mounting Bracket
    • For selector lever cable.
  8. Bolt

    Size depends on the version:

    • M6: 9 Nm
    • M8: 22 Nm
    • For attaching the cable bracket to the transmission.
  9. Clip
    • Replace
    • For attaching the selector lever cable to the cable bracket.
  10. Bolt

    Size depends on the version

    • M6: 9 Nm
    • M8: 22 Nm
    • For attaching the cable bracket to the transmission.

-- Tighten the bolts -arrows- to 9 Nm.

NOTE:

The heat shield for an 8-cylinder, 4.2L FSI engine is shown in the illustration.
