Description And Operation
NOTE:
This engine uses a fixed ignition timing system. Basic ignition timing is not adjustable. All spark advance is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The ignition system is referred to as coil on plug. The system's main components are:
- Ignition Coils - For 2.9L. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Ignition Capacitor -. Refer to CAPACITOR, IGNITION, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Variable Valve Timing Solenoid -. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Spark Plugs -. Refer to SPARK PLUG, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Ignition Control Module (2.9L ONLY) -. Refer to MODULE, IGNITION CONTROL (ICM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Camshaft Position Sensor -. Refer to SENSOR, CAMSHAFT POSITION, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Crankshaft Position Sensor - For 2.0L Refer to SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT POSITION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , or for 2.9L refer to SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT POSITION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Knock Sensor -. Refer to SENSOR, KNOCK, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Powertrain Control Module -. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
