Symptom Troubleshooting Index

When the vehicle has one of these symptoms, check for VSA diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with the HDS. If there are no DTCs, do the diagnostic procedure for the symptom, in the sequence listed, until you find the cause.

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
HDS does not communicate with the VSA modulator-control unit or the vehicle Troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).  
VSA activation indicator does not come on at start-up (bulb check) ('10-11 models)
  1. Do the gauge control module troubleshooting (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).
  2. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ).
 
VSA activation indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored ('10-11 models)
  1. Do the steering angle sensor center point writing (see STEERING ANGLE SENSOR CENTER POINT WRITING  ).
  2. Symptom troubleshooting (see VSA ACTIVATION INDICATOR DOES NOT GO OFF, AND NO DTCS ARE STORED ('10-11 MODELS)  ).
  3. Do the gauge control module troubleshooting (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).
  4. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ).
 
VSA cannot be turned OFF ('12 model)
  1. Symptom troubleshooting (see VSA CANNOT BE TURNED OFF ('12 MODEL)  ).
  2. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ).
 
VSA OFF indicator does not go off ('12 model) Do the steering angle sensor center point writing (see STEERING ANGLE SENSOR CENTER POINT WRITING  ).  
ABS indicator, brake system indicator, and VSA indicator do not come on
  1. Do the gauge control module troubleshooting (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).
  2. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ).
 
ABS indicator, brake system indicator, and VSA indicator do not go off
  1. Symptom troubleshooting (see ABS INDICATOR, BRAKE SYSTEM INDICATOR, AND VSA INDICATOR DO NOT GO OFF  ).
  2. Do the gauge control module troubleshooting (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).
  3. Replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  ).
