Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes By Shorting SCS Circuit

  1. Connect scan tool to 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) located behind access panel in center console. See Fig 1. Use scan tool to short Service Check Signal (SCS) circuit to ground. Without depressing brake pedal, turn ignition on, engine off. ABS or TCS indicator light comes on for 2-second bulb check. Record blinking indicator light sequence. See Fig 2.
NOTE: System will not indicate DTCs unless these conditions are met: TCS switch is not pushed, brake pedal is released, ignition is on, engine off, and SCS circuit is shorted to ground before ignition is turned on.
  2. After ignition is turned on, ABS or TCS indicator light will turn on for 2 seconds, then pause for 4 seconds before blinking first DTC. First code number indicates main code and second code number indicates sub code. To recheck sequence, cycle ignition off and then on again. After DTCs have been retrieved, conduct appropriate test procedures. See ABS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  and TCS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  tables. If light does not flash DTC(s), go to ABS INDICATOR CIRCUIT  or TCS INDICATOR CIRCUIT  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
