(Fault Tracing)

This test is used to fault trace the diagnostic socket OBD II connection.

Preconditions

Before starting the diagnostic communication fault tracing, it is recommended to perform the test "Having problem with connecting to vehicle? Click here." under "Connected vehicles" or "Run system checks".

Instructions

Visually inspect all four Ethernet wires #3, #11, #12, #13 and the activation line #8 in the diagnostic socket OBD II.

HINT: Use the wiring diagrams and component images as support to find the correct wires and terminal pins to fault trace.

Check for:

Measure that power supply pin #16 in the diagnostic socket OBD II has +12 V DC. If not, continue the fault tracing of the wire and its fuse accordingly.

HINT: Measure on the rear end of the terminal pin from the back side of the diagnostic socket OBD II.

Connect the Volvo OBD to Ethernet adapter to the OBD connector and while it is connected, measure that the activation line #8 in the OBD connector gets pulled high to +12V DC.

If not, the fault is probably in the OBD to Ethernet adapter. Replace the adapter if necessary.

HINT: Measure on the rear end of the terminal pin from the back side of the diagnostic socket OBD II.

If no fault can be found, continue in the action list to fault trace the wires between the diagnostic socket OBD II and the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM).

If all wires are ok, continue the fault tracing of the digital communication with the vehicle by choosing the component "wired connection to the vehicle" in the action list.
