Center Console Display (CCD) (16/202) [2019-2022]: Description
There are two variants of the Center Console Display (CCD). One with a capacitive touchscreen and one with an infrared touchscreen.
To avoid unwanted touch input while cleaning the screen, the Center Console Display (CCD) can be disabled from registering touch input by pressing the home button under the display for a few seconds. The display will inform the user when the cleaning mode is activated and how to deactivate it.
Capacitive touchscreen
The screen requires the user to use a conducting material when touching the screen to sense the touch, such as a bare finger.
Infrared touchscreen
The infrared touchscreen uses LEDs and photodiodes to register objects touching the screen. The LEDs and photodiodes are placed on opposing edges of the screen. The LEDs send out light beams that cross each other in vertical and horizontal patterns. The photodiodes registers light and calculate if anything disrupts the light on the way. The infrared touchscreen can detect any object that disrupts the light beam such as a finger, stylus or a gloved finger.
The screen continuously monitors the response from the photodiodes in comparison to the output light of the LEDs. The screen can compensate for a limited amount of dust or other residue by increasing the power to the LEDs and thereby the light output to the photodiodes. The screen also uses this method to compensate for bright light in the passenger compartment. The brightness of the display can be adjusted.
The Center Console Display (CCD) has integrated temperature sensors to avoid overheating. The display is cooled by a fan on the backside and the fan speed is regulated according to the temperature of the display.
The display can handle scrolling and zooming with two fingers and has an integrated button that is lit by a LED. The button is directly connected to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU).
