Safety Certificate

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

For the Internet connection to work, there must be a valid certificate in the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU). The certificate has encrypted content with the vehicle's VIN and market code and it is downloaded into the control module at the factory. The certificate's security is comparable to that used by banks for their online services.

The certificate accompanies the vehicle and does not need to be replaced if the vehicle changes owners. The certificate protects the vehicle against unauthorized access of data. It also prevents access to critical information such as the vehicle's electronic anti-theft protection and data used for systems for active safety, for example, the collision safety system and electronic stability control ESC.
