System Overview
The Volvo On Call system consists of a number of components which all have to function for the services to be delivered. The picture shows the different elements and how they interact.
- Volvo On Call app is used for the On Call services. The app is connected to the Volvo On Call Server and Sensus Connected Cloud using GSM or 3G and communicates through these with the vehicle.
- Volvo On Call Dealer Portal is used to register customer information, start up the subscription, provision the vehicle, send PIN-code to customer and to handle customer data and ownership changes.
- Volvo On Call Server manages the On Call services.
- Sensus Connect Cloud manages the Volvo ID and login authentication for the Volvo On Call app and for the My Volvo site.
- Call Center handles Roadside Assistance, SOS calls, stolen vehicle tracking, theft notification and the welcome call with the customer. Call center sends out help when assistance is needed. Call Center is also able to help the customer with PIN code.
- My Volvo is the web service used to book maintenance service and other services. (The Swedish site "Min Volvo" also handles the Volvo On Call services, apart from unlock and lock.)
- The vehicle contains a control module called Phone Module (PHM) that controls the telematics functions. There are also two switches: ON CALL and SOS. When the customer uses the On Call or SOS switches the call is directly connected to the Call Center. The vehicle position and vehicle data is always sent through the Volvo On Call server to the Call Center. The services and calls use the GSM and 3G networks.
- VIDA manages the activation of the Phone Module (PHM), putting it in the status Activated and Unprovisioned (see further down). VIDA also handles the Volvo On Call status in Phone Module (PHM). This is also where the deactivation is performed.
- PIE delivers the vehicle configuration including: VIN, registration number, color and engine data to Volvo On Call Server and Sensus Connect cloud. If the vehicle identity is not available in the Volvo On Call server and Sensus Connect Cloud, the subscription cannot be activated.
