DESCRIPTION

If a customer comments/report a Bluetooth device having a pairing or partial compatibility issues, use the information below to help the customer understand the limitations of this global standard.

1. VCNA Bluetooth website.

2. Read the item "Compatibility with many phones"  which states "Many phones available on the market today offer Bluetooth® Wireless Technology. All the mobile phones displayed on this website have been successfully tested by Volvo and the result for each test criterion is displayed. Please note that this list serves as information only and is not a guarantee from the Volvo Car Corporation of the phone's connectivity, performance or functionality. Software updates by Volvo, the phone manufacturer or the network carrier may alter the test results"
3. Become familiar with the following relevant FAQ's on the site
   • Are all Bluetooth® phones compatible with the system?
   • Which phones are compatible with my Volvo?
   • When will new Bluetooth® phones be listed?
   • Why isn't my current Bluetooth® phone listed?
   • Why does my Bluetooth® phone have different functionalities than what is indicated in the Volvo test results on this website and especially the disclaimer at the bottom of the FAQ page. The disclaimer states:

   Availability of specific features is dependent upon the phone's Bluetooth support. Despite the fact that Bluetooth is a global standard, many different versions are implemented in today's mobile phones. Every version offered may not support the profiles necessary to successfully communicate with the Volvo Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System. The test results shown on this website are an indication of mobile phone compatibility with the implemented functions in the Volvo Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System as of the date of testing, but this compatibility list is not a warranty for phone performance or functionality. System performance and feature availability can vary based on phone software version, wireless carrier, coverage, and many other factors outside of Volvo's control. Volvo does not guarantee the availability of any specific feature and makes no guarantees or warranties relating to the performance of these features. Phone and feature compatibility status are subject to change without notice. 

4. The customer should enter his or her phone and model number information on the Bluetooth main page.
   • If the phone is not listed, see "Why isn't my current Bluetooth phone listed?"
   • If the phone is listed and has a different function than what is stated, See "Why does my Bluetooth® phone have different functionalities than what is indicated in the Volvo test results on this website" 
5. It is important that the customer understand the disclaimer statements:
   IMPORTANT: It is very possible that the customer's phone Software can be updated without their knowledge. By this, the phone functions may change in regards to the car's Bluetooth Phone Module overnight. Most carriers are using unique Software for the same device. e.g. The Software for AT&T Droid and a Verizon Droid are different and can change from month to month. It is not feasible to be able to test every version for specific functionality.

   If there are any hopes to even slightly improve these concerns, we need facts on the behaviors of these devices.

   Manufacturer, Model number, Carrier, Firmware version and an accurate description of any pairing or functionality problem.

   Unfortunately, If we do not have all of these facts it is of no value, and will limit any potential progress related to this issue.

Please do not leave the customer with the impression that there is a solution for their particular phone as this is not always the case. This is an industry wide concern with no foreseeable improvements.
