Checking Components
Check the engine oil level and quality. Check for contaminants in particular.
Check the engine oil pressure.
Remove the camshaft reset valve. Check the oil ducts for the cylinder head for the camshaft reset valve (intake) for blockages and dirt.
HINT: Faults may result from dirt in the camshaft reset valve. Try cleaning the valve.
Remedy as necessary.
Try a new intake camshaft reset valve if the above remedy does not solve the fault.
HINT: The fault may also have been caused by an internal fault in the variable valve timing unit. The variable valve timing unit may be defective if the above fault tracing and corrective action does not remedy the fault.
