The gear selector module (GSM) is located below the top panel for the gear selector assembly. The control module communicates with the transmission control module (TCM) via an internal network, Local Interconnect Network (LIN), for the activation of the gear lock function (shift-lock) for example. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the gear selector module (GSM) registers that the current passing through the shift-lock solenoid is too great when the output for the solenoid driver stage is active.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed while the ignition is switched on.

Substitute Value 

• Gear selector blocked.

Possible Source 

• Contact resistance in the terminals
• Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
• The shift-lock solenoid does not work
• Internal fault in the gear selector module (GSM).

Fault symptom[s] 

• Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
• General warning lamp lit
• The gear selector cannot be moved.
