Checking Function Of The Gear Position Sensor

Ignition on.
Read off the position of the gear selector.
Depress the brake pedal. Move the gear selector to the position for manual shifting and check that the status changes.
Move the gear selector lever to +. Check that gear selection is updated in the display in the diagnostic tool as well as the display in the combined instrument panel.
Move the gear selector to -. Check that the gear selection is updated.
If the gear selector function is OK, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i. e. an intermittent fault.
