The gear selector module (GSM) is located in the top panel for the gear selector assembly. The gear selector module (GSM) communicates with the transmission control module (TCM) via an internal network, Local Interconnect Network (LIN), for the activation of the gear lock function (shift-lock) for example. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the gear selector module (GSM) registers that the solenoid driver stage is active when it should be inactive.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the ignition is switched on.

Substitute Value 

• No blocking of the gear selector.

Possible Source 

• Short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable
• The solenoid does not function
• Internal fault in the gear selector module (GSM).

Fault symptom[s] 

• General warning lamp lit
• Gear selector can be moved with the ignition off.
