Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information EPS-0040

The electrical power steering module (EPS) monitors the pump motor and the internal temperature of the control module.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the electrical power steering module (EPS) registers that the internal temperature of the control module is greater than 110 °C at start up or exceeds 120 °C while the pump motor is running.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed at ignition on or with the engine running.

NOTE:

If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EPS-0030 is stored simultaneously with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EPS-0040, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EPS-0030 must be remedied first.

Substitute Value

No power steering effect.

Possible Source

High outside temperature or engine compartment temperature combined with "hard driving".
Mechanical or hydraulic fault in the power steering system (example: steering gear, hoses or pipes blocked)
Damaged electrical power steering module (EPS).

No or weak power steering effect
General warning lamp lit
Messages in the display.
