Condition

The rear electrical module (REM) checks if the doors are open or closed using the switches in the lock units. The switches provide a ground to the rear electronic module (REM) when the doors are shut.

The rear electronic module (REM) checks the status of the switches by powering them for a short period ("polling").

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the rear electronic module (REM) receives a high signal from the rear right door  switch when the control module has not polled that switch. This is seen as a short-circuit to supply voltage in the switch or the cable to the switch.
