Condition

The engine control module (ECM) checks the signals from the throttle position sensors.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-914C is stored in the engine control module (ECM) if the engine control module (ECM) registers a fault in the signals from the throttle position sensors.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-914C can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.

Substitute Value

In the event of a detected fault in one of the signals the other signal is used
The cruise control is disengaged when the fault is active.

Possible Source

Signal too high

Short-circuit to voltage in the signal cables
Short-circuit to battery voltage in the power supply
Open-circuit in the ground lead
Short-circuit to supply voltage in the ground lead
Defective electronic throttle unit (ETM).

Signal too low

Short-circuit to ground in the signal cables
Open-circuit in the signal cables
Short-circuit to ground in the power supply
Open-circuit in the power supply
Defective electronic throttle unit (ETM).

Faulty signal

Contact resistance in the terminals
Defective electronic throttle unit (ETM).

Fault symptom[s]

Poor accelerator pedal (AP) response
Cruise control does not function at all.
