The engine control module (ECM) assumes two initial values for probe voltage, 0 V and 5 V. If probe preheating is active and at least one fuel shut-off has been made, the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) maximum value must have exceeded 0.6 V and the minimum value must have been below 0.3 V. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored and the engine control module (ECM) interprets it as a fault if these limit values are not achieved after approximately 5 minutes and both the accumulated and actual heated oxygen sensor preheating have reached certain limit values.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the engine is running.
