Shift solenoids S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5 operate together with solenoid S2 to control gear-shifting. Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) TCM-0003, TCM-0009, TCM-0103, TCM-0109 or TCM-010C are stored if the transmission control module (TCM) registers that there is a short-circuit to ground in circuits S1, S2, S3, S4 or S5 when the solenoid should be activated.

Substitute Value 

• The transmission control module (TCM) "Emergency mode I" program has been initiated.

Possible Source 

• Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
• Defective solenoid
• Internal fault in the control module.

Fault symptom[s] 

• The warning lamp for the automatic transmission flashes
• No lock-up function
• Harsh gear shifting
• No shifting.
