The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) detects that the value from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor deviates too much from the values for intake and outside temperatures after the engine has been switched off for an extended period.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is diagnosed once per operating cycle, with the ignition on, but only when the temperature in the intake manifold has dropped by approximately 35 °C from engine operating temperature since the previous operating cycle.
