Central Locking (2001-2004): Signals

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2007 Volvo V70, 2006 Volvo V70, 2005 Volvo V70, 2004 Volvo V70, and 2003 Volvo V70. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The chart below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the different control modules for the lock function. The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and control area network (CAN) communication.

Directly connected input signals from the sensors / switches to the control module: Directly connected output signals to the controlled components / functions from the control module:
Brake control module (BCM) / ABS control module  , (4/16)
  • Vehicle speed sensors (VSS) from all wheels, vehicle speed signal.
 Central electronic module (CEM)  (4/56)
  • All turn signal lamps, on/off
  • Shift relay deadlock/power child lock in rear doors.
Central electronic module (CEM)  (4/56)
  • All doors, closed/open
  • Rear doors, locked/unlocked
  • Tailgate, closed / open
  • Collision output signal from SRS (supplemental restraint system) control module, collision/no collision.
 The driver's door module  (3/126)
  • Driver's door lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock.
The climate control module  (3/112)
  • Switch for reduced alarm, on/off
  • Switch child lock, on/off
  • Switch valet lock, on/off.
 The passenger door module  (3/127)
  • Passenger door lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock.
The driver's door module  (3/126)
  • Driver's door, locked/unlocked
  • Key, locking / unlocking.
 Rear electronic module  (4/58)
  • Rear doors lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock
  • Power child lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Fuel tank filler cover lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Tailgate lock motor, lock/unlock (only V70/V70XC)
  • Pop-up motor trunk lid (only S60/S80).
The passenger door module  (3/127)
  • The passenger door, locked/unlocked.
 SRS control module  (4/9)
  • Collision output signal to the central electronic module, collision/no collision.
Rear electronic module  (4/58)
  • Switch in the trunk lid, on/off (S60/S80 only).
Received information to control modules via Controller Area Network (CAN): Transmitted information to control modules via Controller Area Network (CAN):
The central electronic module (4/56) receives from: 
The brake control module (ABS-control module) (4/16)
  • Speed, speed signal.

The climate control module (3/112)
  • Switch for reduced alarm, on/off
  • Switch child lock, on/off
  • Switch valet lock, on/off.

Driver's door module (DDM) (3/126)
  • Driver's door, locked/unlocked
  • Key, locking / unlocking
  • Switch door panel, on/off.

Passenger door module (3/127)
  • Passenger door, locked/unlocked
  • Switch door panel, on/off.

Rear electronic module (4/58)
  • Switch in the trunk lid, on/off (S60/S80 only).

Upper electronic module (4/70)
  • Remote control signal. LOCK, UNLOCK and TRUNK.
 The central electronic module (4/56) transmits to: 
The driver information module (5/1)
  • Text message, reduced alarm, valet lock, child lock and fuel tank filler cover unlocked (only cars with switch for fuel tank filler cover opening).

Driver's door module (DDM) (3/126)
  • Driver's door lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock.

Passenger door module (3/127)
  • Passenger door lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock.

Rear electronic module (4/58)
  • Rear doors lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock
  • Power child lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Fuel tank filler cover lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Tailgate lock motor, lock/unlock (only V70/V70XC)
  • Pop-up motor trunk lid (only S60/S80).

 The passenger door module (3/126) transmits to: 
The central electronic module (CEM) (4/56)
  • Passenger door, locked/unlocked
  • Door panel switch, active/not active.
The rear electronic module (4/58) receives from: 
The central electronic module (CEM) (4/56)
  • Rear doors lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Lock motor deadlocked, lock/unlock
  • Power child lock motors, lock/unlock
  • Fuel tank filler cover lock motor, lock/unlock
  • Tailgate lock motor, lock/unlock (only V70/V70XC),
  • Pop-up motor trunk lid (only S60/S80).
