Gear Selector Linkage

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Working at transmission, loosen gear selector arm/control rod nut so that rod is free to move in its slot.
NOTE: Parking brake must not be applied when checking selector linkage.
  2. Move gear selector lever to Park. Gently press lever forward to eliminate play and use support to retain lever in position.
  3. Press selector link on transmission backward into Park. Check that Park position is in this position by trying to turn drive shaft.
  4. Tighten control rod/gear lever arm nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m). Remove support from gear selector lever.
  5. Check adjustment. Move gear selector lever to position D. Check for clearance in direction of position N. Move lever to position 3. Check for clearance in direction of position L. Adjustment is complete if all positions are properly spaced and selector slides smoothly into each position.
