Gear Selector Assembly: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative cable.
  2. Remove selector knob. Pull straight up with significant force to remove.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect transmission control rod. See Fig 1 .
  4. Remove insulating panels. Remove ash tray. Remove screws in storage compartment. Remove console mounting screws and cover under parking brake. See Figure .
    CAUTION: If vehicle is equipped with SRS, DO NOT disconnect 4-pin Yellow connector or 2-pin Orange connector.
  5. Disconnect harness connector and remove harness from center console. Open connector at left-hand side of selector assembly. DO NOT disconnect 4-pin Yellow connector or 2-pin Orange connector as these are for vehicle SRS.
  6. Remove ignition lock cable. Remove cable adjuster locking clip at gear selector lever end. Raise edge of rubber strip around gear lever and unhook cable from lever arm. Disconnect cable attachment from gear selector unit. Ensure that cable cannot become caught in gear selector unit. See Figure .
  7. Remove gear selector unit screws and lift unit out.
