Ensure gear selector linkage bushings are not worn. If worn, replace. Place transmission in Drive and move selector lever against gate. Clearance from pin to stop in "D" position should be same as clearance in "2" position. See Fig 1 . If clearance requires adjustment, adjust rod on gear selector.
