Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

  1. Ensure ignition switch is off. Connect measuring unit to TCM. See Figure. Turn ignition switch on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between measuring unit terminals No. 20 and 50. Voltage should be .2 volt with throttle closed and up to 4.8 volts with wide open throttle (WOT). If voltage is as specified, sensor is okay. If voltage is not as specified, replace sensor.
  2. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between measuring unit terminal No. 20 and a good known ground. Voltage should be less than .7 volt. If voltage is as specified, TCM is properly grounded. If voltage is not as specified, check for poor ground connection.
