Air Mass Meter Circuit

  1. On all models, turn ignition off. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals No. 6 and No. 7. Resistance should be approximately 3.7 ohms. Connect ohmmeter leads between terminals No. 6 and No. 14. Resistance should be between zero and 1000 ohms (depending on CO-adjusting screw position).
  2. If resistance does not meet specifications, CO level must be adjusted. See appropriate TUNE-UP article in the TUNE-UP section. If resistance is still out of specifications after adjusting CO or if CO cannot be adjusted, the circuit is defective. Turn CO adjustment screw to full counterclockwise position.
  3. Install a jumper wire between terminal No. 21 and ground. The fuel injection relay should click. Peel back rubber cover from mass air meter connector. On 2.8L models, connect a voltmeter between ground and terminal No. 1 and ground and terminal No. +5. Voltmeter should read battery voltage in both cases.
  4. On 2.3L models, connect a voltmeter between ground and terminal No. 9 and between terminals No. 9 and No. 36. Voltmeter should read battery voltage in both cases.
