ISSUE & TIP
The temperature gauge on some 1981-84 Volvo 240DLs and 760 Turbos may work erratically. A grounded temperature sender wire may be the cause. Trace the sender wire and examine it closely. The wire may be grounding itself against the intake manifold. To spot this problem, you may have to remove the air intake bellows.
To prevent the problem from recurring, slice a length of vacuum hose and slip the hose over the sender wire. Use tape or wire-ties to hold the vacuum hose in place.
