Differentials & Drive Axles: Description

Axle shafts are semi-floating. Axle shaft outer bearings are pressed onto shafts and attached to axle housing by outer retainers. Axle shaft bearing clearance is not adjustable and is determined by bearing design.

Hypoid type drive pinion and ring gear set uses a 2-pinion differential with a 1-piece case. Limited slip differential is available. Limited slip cases are of 2-piece design and use 4 pinion gears mounted on a spider. Differential adjustments are made with shims.
