ATF Level, Checking: Notes
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :SMN372500
Note the following information:
- If filling the ATF, only use ATF that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the appropriate service information .
Requirements
- The vehicle is level and all hoist mounts are the same height.
- Noise insulation removed.
- The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester is connected.
- To begin working, the oil temperature should not be higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
- Test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F)
Risk of injury due to hot transmission fluid.
Checking
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions .
-- Select check ATF level .
Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
- The engine is idling and the selector lever is in "P".
-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit :SMN372500 under the transmission near the ATF check plug.
-- Remove the ATF check plug -1-.
-- The ATF drain plug with the overflow tube -3- and seal -4- must stay in the transmission -5-.
Replace the seal -2-.
Even if the transmission fluid level is low, a small amount of transmission fluid will flow out of the overflow tube -3- since it fills during operation.
ATF flows out of the overflow pipe.
-- Let the excess fluid drain.
-- Install the plug with a new seal as soon as the fluid has drained out (it starts to drip).
-- If no oil flows out, the oil must be filled.
Too little or too much fluid will impair the function of the transmission.
