Engine, Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

If the engine and transmission were separated:

Vehicles with Manual Transmission

-- Insert the intermediate plate. Refer to Intermediate plate, removing and installing .

-- Make sure that the alignment sleeves for centering the engine and transmission are present.

Vehicles with DSG Transmission

-- Install the intermediate plate. Refer to Intermediate plate, removing and installing .

-- Make sure that the alignment sleeves for centering the engine and transmission are present.

-- Make sure that a new needle bearing is installed. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .

Continuation for all vehicles 

-- Tighten the transmission to the engine. Refer to the appropriate service information. .

Continuation 

-- Guide the engine/transmission assembly into the body.

-- Install the bolts -arrows- all the way by hand, for this, use a commercially available step ladder.

-- Install the bolts -arrows- all the way by hand, for this, use a commercially available step ladder.

-- Remove the engine bracket.

-- Refer to Assembly Mounts, Checking and Adjusting  .

-- Tighten the engine and transmission mount.

Vehicles with Manual Transmission

If the clutch hydraulics were opened:

-- Refer to Clutch Mechanism, Bleeding .

Continuation 

-- Refer to Controls, Housing (0GC) - Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting or Controls, Housing (Transmission Installed) (02Q) - Shift Mechanism, Adjusting .

Vehicles with DSG Transmission

-- Refer to the appropriate service information. .

Continuation for all vehicles 

-- Refer to the appropriate service information.

-- Refer to Cooling System, Filling .

If a new engine was installed:

-- Perform the adaptation values after replacing components using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .
