Engine, Supporting In Installation Position

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Engine Support Bridge: 10 - 222 A 
• Engine Support - Bracket w/Spindle and Hook: 10-222A/10 
• Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28: 10-222A/28 
• Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28-2: 10-222A/28-2 
• Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 29: 10 - 222 A /29  (quantity: 2)
• Engine Support - Square Pipe: T40091/1  and Engine Support - Joint Fixture: T40091/3  (quantity: 2) from the Engine Support - Basic Set: T40091 
• Movable Joint: T40093/3  (quantity: 2) from Engine Support Supplement Set: T40093B 
• Engine/Gearbox Support Shackle: 10-222 A/12

Support the engine

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the right and left foam parts -arrows- for the plenum chamber seal.

-- Place the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 29: 10 - 222 A /29  on both sides of the vehicle between the fender and the fender bolting plate underneath.

Installation position:

• The Engine Support Bridge: 10-222 A  is installed behind the gas-filled strut for the hood.
• The Adapter "L" = -1- is installed on the "right" side of the vehicle.
• The Adapter "R" (not illustrated here) is installed on the "left" side of the vehicle.
• The arrow -2- always points in direction of travel.

-- Slide the two Engine Support - Joint Fixture: T40091/3  onto the Engine Support Bridge: 10-222 A  .

-- Tighten the Engine Support Bridge: 10-222 A  on the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 29: 10 - 222 A /29  .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the lock carrier retaining bracket on the left and right sides

-- Remove the lower mounts on the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28: 10 - 222 A /28  and replace with the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28-2: 10-222A/28-2  .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for securing the engine support bridge on the lock carrier from the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28-2: 10-222 A /28-2  .

-- Tighten the Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 28-2: 10-222 A /28-2  on the lock carrier using the bolt -1-. Tightening specification: 8 Nm.

-- Install the Square Pipes: T40091/1  each with a corresponding spindle as shown.

-- Engage the Spindles in the lifting eyes of the engine. If necessary, use the Engine/Gearbox Support Shackle: 10 - 222 A /12  .

-- Tension the engine/transmission sub-assembly slightly with the Spindles.
