Selector Mechanism With Selector Lever Cable, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the air duct in the center console. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .
-- Disconnect the connector from the selector mechanism to the vehicle wiring harness.
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 2.0L or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 3.6L .
-- Pry the selector lever cable -1- off the selector lever -2-, for example, using a wrench.
Use pliers to remove the lock washer -3- from the cable bracket -4-. Do not use a sharp-edged lever. Otherwise the selector lever cable could get damaged. The bolts -5- are not removed.
-- Disengage the gearshift lever cable -1- from the clip -2-.
Always replace the circlip on the selector lever cable.
Risk of damaging the selector lever cable.
- Do not push the selector lever cable rearward out of the cable bracket. When removing the selector mechanism, first guide the selector lever cable out of the cable bracket.
-- Raise the vehicle.
-- Remove the tunnel heat shield under the selector mechanism. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .
-- Remove the bracket -A-, if equipped.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.
-- Remove the selector mechanism -B- with the selector lever cable and selector housing downward.
