Power Steering Pump Delivery Pressure, Checking: Procedure

-- Disconnect the intake hose from the reservoir.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- from the return line.

-- Remove the nut -1- and the pressure line from the power steering pump.

-- Mount the :VAG1402  and the adapters as illustrated.

  5. Power Steering Pump

-- Remove the :3094  from the intake hose.

Make sure the lever on the pressure gauge is in position -1-.

-- Start engine and fill hydraulic fluid in reservoir if necessary.

-- Turn the steering wheel approximately 10 times from stop to stop.

-- Check the delivery pressure.

Test Prerequisites 

-- Move the shut-off valve lever on the pressure gauge to -2- and read the pressure.

CAUTION:

Let the engine run in idle and close the shut-off valve on the pressure gauge for not longer than 5 seconds (position -2-).

Specification For Delivery Pressure 

96 to 104 bar (1392 to 1508 psi)

-- If specified value is not obtained, replace power steering pump. Refer to POWER STEERING PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 5-CYLINDER GASOLINE ENGINE .

-- Remove the pressure gauge and adapter.

-- Bleed steering system. Refer to STEERING, BLEEDING AFTER REPLACING .

-- Check hydraulic fluid level and fill, if necessary. Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to STEERING, CHECKING FOR LEAKS .
