Selector Lever Cable, Checking And Adjusting
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 5-50Nm: VAG1331
-- Read and follow the High-Voltage Vehicle Electrical System General Warnings. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Pay attention to the High-Voltage System Danger Classification. Refer to [For engine(s) EAGA] High-Voltage System Danger Classification .
Extremely dangerous due to high-voltage.
Electrocution can cause death or severe bodily injury.
- Have the high-voltage system de-energized by qualified personnel.
-- Disable the high-voltage system. Refer to [For engine(s) EAGA] High-Voltage Battery Unit .
-- Perform a visual inspection of the high-voltage components in the work area. Refer to [For engine(s) EAGA] Safety Precautions .
Checking the selector lever cable, brief description
The selector lever cable must be disconnected from the transmission in order to check it for ease of movement. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Lay the removed end down so that it does not touch anything.
Then selector lever is moved and installed again on the transmission.
Do not lubricate the cable connections.
Adjust the selector lever after that.
Always adjust the selector lever cable if:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- Three-Phrase Current Drive -VX54- / transmission were removed and installed.
- Parts of subframe mount were removed and installed.
- The cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- Three-Phrase Current Drive -VX54- / transmission positions changes.
-- Pry off the selector lever cable from the parking lock lever -1- in the direction of the -arrow-.
Check the parking lock lever -1-.
-- Place the parking lock lever in >>P<< direction of the -arrow-.
-- Move the parking lock lever from P to R and back to P multiple times.
- The parking lock lever must be easy to move while doing so.
Adjusting
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
Push the parking lock lever -1- on the transmission in "P" in the direction of the -arrow-.
-- To do this push the parking lock lever -1- completely to the bulkhead.
"P" is in the last detent.
On some transmissions the parking lock lever can be pushed slightly past "P" where the lever can engage.
Then push the parking lock lever back into "P", tap slightly allowing it to jump back into "P".
Verification: "P" - position is parallel to the motor/transmission housing threaded connection.
Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.
The transmission is also in "P" if the vehicle does not move with wheels spinning freely.
"P" is one detent behind "R", in which both front wheels cannot be turned at the same time in one direction.
-- Tighten adjustment screw -2- to the tightening specification.
