Engine Number/Engine Characteristics
The engine number ("engine code" and "serial number") is located on the left side in the front under the high pressure pump toothed belt -arrow-.
In addition, a sticker with "engine code" and "serial number" is affixed to the intake manifold.
The engine code is also included on the vehicle data plate.
Four-digit engine codes beginning with "C" are used. The first three digits describe the mechanical structure of the engine and are still stamped on the engine, as before. The fourth digit describes the engine output and torque and depends on the Engine Control Module (ECM). The four-digit engine code is on the type label, the vehicle data sticker and the ECM.
Vehicles for some countries do not have a type label. Installed locations for the vehicle data sticker and the type label. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION

Cylinder Numbering
Numbering of cylinders begins on right side -A- as seen in direction of travel (cylinder bank 1) opposite the power transfer side -C-. Cylinders are counted on each side in sequence. -B- = cylinder bank 2.
