Starter Does Not Crank Engine
NOTE:
On vehicles with automatic transmission, ensure park/neutral switch is operating properly.
- Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure electrical and ground connections are clean and tight.
- With ignition switch in START position, measure voltage at starter solenoid terminal No. 3. See Fig 1 . Reading should be at least 8 volts. If there is no voltage, or voltage is less than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step 4 .
- While operating starter, measure voltage at terminal 50 of ignition switch. If reading is at least 8 volts, check wiring between ignition switch and starter solenoid. If voltage is not as specified, replace ignition switch.
- While operating starter, measure voltage at starter solenoid terminal No. 2. See Fig 1 . If reading is at least 8 volts, repair or replace starter. If reading is less than 8 volts, replace starter solenoid.
