Positive Crankcase Ventilation System: With PCV Heating Element (N79)

NOTE: From model year 2000 on, Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) systems utilize a PCV system with PCV Heating Element (N79). Not all 2.8L engine code AES may be equipped with this device.
  1. To check mechanical part of PCV system, locate PCV hose/hoses coming from crankcase and /or valve cover. Make a visual inspection of PCV hoses, fittings and grommets. Check PCV valve located at engine side of air cleaner ducting. When checking PCV valve, air should flow through PCV valve in direction of engine air intake, air pressure should not be able to enter crankcase or valve cover through PCV system.
  2. PCV Heating Element (N79) is located at engine side of air cleaner ducting. Harness connector is a 2-pin black harness connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .
  3. To check PCV Heating Element (N79) resistance, disconnect 2-pin black harness connector. Resistance should be 7-12 ohms at about 77°F (25°C).
  4. To check voltage and ground supply to PCV Heating Element (N79), start engine and idle. Disconnect black 2-pin black harness connector. Check for voltage at black 2-pin harness connector, battery voltage should be present. If battery voltage is not present, check fuse and wiring. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
