WHEEL CYLINDER SPRINGS

YEAR(S): All

MANUFACTURER: Volkswagon

MODELS: Vanagons

ISSUE & TIP

When replacing the wheel cylinders on Volkswagen Vanagons, be sure to check the replacement wheel cylinders for springs between the cup seals. Some aftermarket cylinders don't have these springs.

If the spring is not there, the brake shoe will cause the cup seals to retract slightly. This will cause a low brake pedal for the first few pumps if the vehicle sits for any length of time. The spring will keep the cup seals from retracting and you will always have a firm pedal.
